NRI Annual Review 2026 - Flipbook - Page 5
Our role is to assess those questions on the merits of
each technology and application. NRI’s team of qualified
engineers and underwriters work closely with developers,
operators and the wider nuclear supply chain to build
a clear view of risk. This year, we plan to launch Fusion
Energy Insurers as part of our broader expertise and offer
to emerging markets, giving fusion companies access
to specialise knowledge and insurance capacity as the
sector grows.
The risks facing established nuclear sites are changing
too. Greater use of digital systems calls for close attention
to cyber security and the threat posed by people with
access to critical or sensitive systems. Changes to liability
rules also require insurance that can meet obligations
over a much longer period. This year’s Annual Review
sets out how NRI is responding across these areas.
Clear and proportionate regulation will matter across all
the sector. The Fingleton Review offers a chance to make
the UK’s approach nuclear regulation more predictable
while maintaining high safety standards. Its value will
depend on how its recommendations work in practice
for projects and operators.
Our platinum sponsorship of the International Law
Association’s (INLA) Congress in Wales this October
reflects NRI’s wider role in bringing the sector together.
As this Review is launched at Congress, it is an
opportunity to discuss the risks and opportunities facing
nuclear with legal, regulatory and industry specialists.
Through our support for INLA and our Frontiers
programme (more of which is featured in the ensuing
pages of this report), we are helping create space to
explore emerging risks, share expertise and contribute
to the conversations shaping the sector’s future.
Through our work with clients, brokers, members and
partners, and through the Frontiers Live discussions at
INLA, we continue to support informed decisions that
build confidence in the sector’s ambitions. Bringing
Insurance to the world of Nuclear for 70 years.
