NRI Annual Review 2026 - Flipbook - Page 31
By Chris Lambert
The global nuclear sector
is undergoing a profound
structural renaissance driven
by net-zero carbon mandates,
macro-geopolitical shocks, and
exponential electricity demand
from artificial intelligence
hyperscalers.
To achieve true grid
decoupling from fossil fuels,
the international energy
landscape is progressing
beyond standard, centralized
large-scale fission architectures
and is actively pioneering
an agile, highly diversified
ecosystem comprising SMRs,
microreactors, advanced
Generation IV concepts, and
commercial fusion devices.
However, translating these technological ambitions
into tangible, grid-connected assets demands a
rigorous re-engineering of multi-jurisdictional licensing
pathways, the integration of deep data analytics into
technical underwriting, and the resolution of extreme
engineering and material constraints.
