NRI Annual Review 2026 - Flipbook - Page 21
Policy language is evolving with the
Lloyd’s Market Association having
recently amended its nuclear exclusion to
distinguish fusion from fission so that terms
align with actual risk characteristics rather
than legacy assumptions. Insurance, as it
should always be, should be an enabler
and not a bottleneck. NRI is dedicated to
providing specialist covers and to engage
with the fusion industry and stakeholders to
enable them to expand and commercialise
with confidence knowing that insurable
risks are covered.
Insurance solutions for every
stage of development
NRI is already providing Construction All
Risks cover for fusion-specific projects.
NRI can also offer operational Property
Damage, Machinery Breakdown,
Business Interruption and Malicious Cyber
coverage tailored to fusion plants once
they commence operations. Our Nuclear
Third-Party Liability and Transit Liability
policies can be adapted to radiation risk
exposure primarily associated with tritium
and secondary activation processes, though
these risks are significantly lower than those
in fission. As well as providing bespoke
insurance solutions our engineers, as part of
our technical engineering surveys, develop
loss prevention plans and commissioning
reviews to reduce risk and improve
insurability. Most importantly, in the event
of a claim we can access specialist loss
adjusters and technical experts to resolve
incidents quickly and transparently. 3
policies, and support the sector from FOAK
to fleet deployment.
Our understanding of the nuclear sector
is unrivalled. We have delivered expertise
across numerous nuclear-licensed sites
in the UK and worldwide coverage from
Canada to Japan, advising operators and
contractors at every level of the supply
chain. Our commitment to long-term
relationships spans government bodies,
regulators, operators, developers, and
contractors.
Working through the
international nuclear
insurance pooling
system gives NRI
access to deep technical
knowledge for complex
risks, enabling tailored
cover from construction
through to operation...
Partnering with fusion
for the long term
NRI works with insurance brokers,
developers, regulators and industry
bodies to keep cover aligned to evolving
risks and standards. Our responsibility is
straightforward: assess fusion on its own
technical merits, provide clear and bankable
