Drawing on our respective expertise in
the nuclear project development life
cycle, we’ve launched Nuclear Capital
with an initial offering of two distinct
funds: a Growth Equity Fund with an
initial target of £500 million, and a
Debt Fund aiming for £1 billion.
This is partly an education piece – for
a long time, private capital has been
wary of investing in nuclear. We need
to bring investors along, on a journey to
understand that for those with the funds
and patience, the nuclear industry
brings steady, reliable returns.
Michael Dawson, Partner at Nuclear
Capital LLP and renowned nuclear
industry insurer commented:
“We are entering a period of sustained
nuclear expansion on the back of net
zero and the desire for energy security.
“This transition will require hundreds of
billions of dollars of investment both in
terms of equity and debt. We believe
support is needed for investors to
better understand the risk, to optimise
returns to capital and enable the
industry to grow. I think Nuclear Capital
Partners can bring this expertise and
discipline to investors to the benefit of all
stakeholders in the energy transition.”
Private capital: the future
of nuclear
Nuclear Capital is just the beginning of a
much broader phenomenon. We expect
other market entrants to be formed in
the coming years as private capital looks
to pour into the nuclear industry.
Humanity has set itself an ambitious
target of net zero emissions, to be
underpinned by unprecedented growth
in nuclear capacity. To achieve this
will take vast sums of capital, and I
couldn’t be prouder to be playing a role
in facilitating this endeavour for the
longevity of humanity and our planet.
