A new approach to nuclear finance
The nuclear renaissance is going to take all
types of investors, but there is a growing
need for private capital. Private finance is the
missing piece as the sector moves from 100%
sovereign finance of nuclear to a more diverse
pool of investor classes.
Pension funds, with their vast sums of capital
and long-term vision, can afford the capital
intensity of nuclear projects and the long wait
for return on investment that other financiers
with short-term goals are all too ready to shun.
Big tech giants, hungry for reliable zero
emissions power, are looking to take a direct
stake in nuclear. Family offices too are taking
an interest in nuclear, with high-net-worth
individuals demonstrating a particular
interest in fusion.
Nuclear Capital Partners
In the past year, Nuclear Capital LLP was
born. Along with myself, this partnership has
been established with former MP Virginia
Crosbie - Ynys Môn (Wylfa NPP), Louis
Plowden-Wardlaw ex Terrestrial Energy, Tolga
Uzuner from Natixis Investment Managers,
and Michael Dawson who is the founder and
Underwriter of Lloyd’s Nuclear Syndicate 1176,
which is managed as part of the Chaucer
Group. We’ve come together with a simple
mission: to facilitate private investment in
the nuclear industry and give new kinds of
investors exposure to the nuclear renaissance.
Together, we understand how to achieve
investments that form a complementary
portfolio spanning from site development to
decommissioning and re-use. We’re building
out our team of nuclear investment
professionals to offer asset management
services to new investors in the global
nuclear energy market.
