A nuclear renaissance
Around the world, a nuclear
renaissance is underway. Emissions
reduction goals are driving
governments to search for low
emissions power sources, populations
are waking up to the need for nuclear
to underpin net zero electricity systems,
securing their own independent
energy sources for their Critical National
Infrastructure, and global tech giants
are realising the need for vast sums of
electricity to power the AI revolution.
Uranium prices are steadily growing,
more than 300 new reactors have been
proposed, and over 30 governments
have signed a pledge to triple nuclear
capacity by 2050.
As the world falls back in love with
nuclear, we need to take stock of
how the world has changed since the
previous nuclear heyday of the early
1980s and rethink the way we fund
and build new nuclear projects.
The previous approach, where
governments provided the bulk of
funding for gigawatt-scale projects is
outdated and no longer relevant for
21st century projects.
At the onset of 2025, the International
Energy Agency came out with a clear
message: nuclear generation is set to
reach an all-time high this year, but the
future of the industry cannot rely on
public finances alone.
Virginia Crosbie, Partner at Nuclear
Capital LLP and former MP for Ynys
Môn added to this saying:
“Joining Nuclear Capital is the logical
next step in my nuclear journey as
we see huge developments in many
countries such as recently announced

to facilitate private

kickstart infrastructure investment.
“The aim of the fund is to diversify
the investment risk within nuclear by
investing in and across the nuclear
industry – from fuel fabrication to new
build, operation, and decommissioning
– where opportunities present
themselves. But the team Nuclear
Capital has assembled is key. It’s a
partnership understanding all aspects
of the nuclear market – finance,
insurance, regulation, law, policy,
design, build and operation,
plus decommissioning and
waste management.”
